Dear God, “I’m sorry”

People are suffocated from evil around us, covered with fear and mesmerized by sin but Jesus is setting people free. We have been hearing reports from across the nation and around the world of people coming to Jesus for forgiveness, receiving salvation and turning their lives around. Repentance is a heart issue not a church issue. Oh, don’t get me wrong – you will want to link up with other believers but merely going to church is not salvation. No, this is a heart issue, a believing in the heart, a cleansing in the heart and a receiving into the heart.

Why must I go to Jesus for forgiveness? Because only God is holy and you have sinned against God. Salvation is the benefit of a repentant heart. Turn to Jesus Christ with all your heart, know that He loves YOU, died for your sins on the cross and is willing to forgive you.

For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

2 Corinthians 7:11

Real repentance doesn’t occur because you are sorry you failed and you are disappointed in yourself, no, it is more than that. Real repentance is not fear from being caught and your sin laid out in the open, no, it is more than that. Real repentance is faith. Faith in knowing you are guilty but Jesus loves you; Jesus is willing to forgive you!

Admit your sin, your guilt, and your wrong in prayer to Jesus Christ.

Acknowledge He died on the cross for you and loves you. Jesus wants you to come to Him.

Ask Him to forgive you and come into your heart and He will if you ask sincerely and honestly.

Accept it all done and thank Jesus for salvation and His mercy. Praise is the path into God’s presence.

Accountability is the next great decision – join a group of Bible believing Christians and stick with your new life.

The Mix

When things fall apart, consider the possibility that God knocked it down on purpose. Not to bully you, or to punish you, but to prompt you to build something that better suits your personality and your purpose.

Sometimes things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I read those words by an anonymous author and said to my self, “How true.”

Life is a mix. Take a spoonful of flour, put it in your mouth, yech! not what you were expecting, take baking soda by itself, (don’t try this at home). No, not good either, now a little sugar and a couple more ingredients, put it in the oven and hot biscuits – now, that’s good. (For a better recipe go online, google Good Biscuit recipes and try them). But you gt the point: the individual ingredients of life may not be good to the taste separately or even make sense but together it is very good.

Maybe you are going through something right now, you don’t understand what is coming from the right or the left but together, when added, mixed and baked is a very good outcome. Are you in the mixer right now? Confused? Downhearted?

Here are just three quick points:

Pray about it There is nothing in the world like opening your heart to God in the early part of the day and expressing your needs, giving Him your cares, and expressing your frustrations but then take the time to let the peace of God melt your heart and fill your mind.

Find something bigger than you Getting involved with the homeless, a missions endeavor, a heart burning project or a church activity can lighten the load rather quickly.

Endure This is probably the last thing you wanted to hear but realize you are stronger than you think you are – especially if you are praying everyday. These things don’t last – so, endure. Pastor Mark Lantz advises, Endurance is a difficult discipline – but he who endures to the end will be saved. Keep up and God will lift you up.

What is Highpoints Book about?

The idea for the Highpoints manuscript started over two years ago while on a hike into the mountains of Breckenridge, Colorado. I had always loved the mountains but this was a spiritual hike and a physical hike. Watching the majestic beauty of the carved rock of splendor, the breathtaking beauty and the awesome atmosphere opened my heart to see God and His work within each one of us, His greatest desire is to bring us closer to Him. To know who He is not just what He does. He wants us higher, greater heights, to see life from His perspective. Highpoints was birthed in my spirit.

I collected stories, articles and outlined my thoughts but the manuscript cooked in the crock pot of my heart until October 2011, when I received a call from a Westbow Consultant asking to print a book I had previously published, “No, but I have one I will be writing.” The writing process took four months, the editorial took a little over a month, the interior design another month and the exterior design a few weeks.

Rather than me try to describe the book, here is an endorsement we received when the initial manuscript was reviewed:

Jim Laudell challenges us to reject the status quo, complacent spiritual life. He inspires us to have the courage to passionately follow Christ and ascend the mountain of spiritual growth. If you are ready to go to the next level in your relationship with God, this book is for you! —Loren Hicks, Lead Pastor at Faith Tabernacle Church, West Los Angeles, CA

Highpoints Book Endorsements

Highpoints book has gone to print. Westbow publishers has announced they are taking HIGHPOINTS to the printer. I will receive a preview copy and soon Highpoints will go into mass production. Already Barnes and Noble, Target and Amazon are resellers and possibly, Christian Book Distributors (CBD). Early reviews have been received and we have a great lineup of endorsements.

Not everyone has experienced mountain climbing, but everyone has experienced falling and then fighting to get back up. Jim takes us from that point of crisis, through the climb, and to the summit. Keep climbing! Brandon Cox, Pastor of Grace Hills Church, Northwest Arkansas, Editor of Pastors.com

My wife and I have been agreeing in prayer for a special anointing upon the book leading them to their own personal Highpoints. We are growing, reaching and climbing together as we grasp Trust, Endurance, Faith; like we have never had it before. Highpoints includes stories of real life mountain climbers telling their stories of stamina, high risk danger and near death experiences. Coupled with tough choices and breathtaking scenery we will move from one mountain peak to the other with Biblical examples of Joseph, Moses, Jesus, Caleb and others.

Highpoints Book: Hiring a Marketing Team

Of all the choices a writer will make, these two stand out among all the rest. In fact, without these two, it is barely believable, your manuscript, once turned into a book, will be purchased. Of these two I will only speak of one at this time. The first is to develop a platform by which you already have an audience and following. The other, hiring a marketing team.

You can learn it, develop it and do it but I chose a marketing team because when it comes to art and design, I rarely know how to get to what I want. In other words, that is not my skill, writing is. So, I hired a social media and marketing team to help me create three elements:

Platform Social media expressions such as, a Facebook Fan Page, a Designed Twitter page, a web page, and a Designed Blog Page to attract followers.

Outreach Being able to be where I needed to be was created by my media and marketing team by well placed ads. I like the Facebook ads but not AdWords. I especially didn’t want to pay for a click because it was difficult to budget for it not knowing the results or the number of clicks I may receive in a month’s time.

Credibility To have a social media presence gave followers the humanization of the author. A real person with a real family with real aspirations, just like we all do.

The marketing team I work with has a Social Media Professional, a Designer, Photographer, and a Web Technician. The Social Media Professional develops your social media sites, assists in growing them and maintaining your presence. At this point I still do my own Twitter, Facebook and WordPress Blog, maybe someday, I will need an assistant but right now I enjoy it too much. The Designer, of course, puts together the logo, pictures, artwork and fonts. The Photographer takes commercial photographs capturing your style and personality, (make sure the photographer is willing to release all rights to the photographs since they will be used commercially). Lastly, the Web Technician, this is mainly for the set up of the webpage for your book but you want to make sure the call to action button links the reader to a purchase site.

I chose the Marketing team based on three main desires that I settled in my mind before I made the decision of what company to go with.

Personal I felt if I couldn’t meet with them over a cup of coffee, laugh, work and share stories then I had the wrong team. Having a personal team creates a mutual feeling of friendship and respect bringing the team, well, into a team. We met weekly at a coffee shop for three months and developed friendships along the way.

Professional Sorry, but I wasn’t willing to risk the project, the money, or the time into someone who was learning along the way. I wanted the team to know where we were going and how to get there.

Punctual Waiting for someone, who sails through past deadlines, is not a virtue of mine and putting off the project because someone missed the date they told me ; only frustrated the project for  everyone. We discussed punctual for me and the rest of the team at the very beginning. One more thing, Be sure and start early enough – at least, five to six months before the book launch, if you don’t already have a platform then start at least one year in advance of your published work.

Here are my links, (as of this writing we are presently redoing the WordPress blog design) – the website will launch right before the book printing (hopefully soon).

New Book: Highpoints released soon

In just a few days we will be able to release the front cover design of our new book, Highpoints, published by Westbow Publishers. We have been assured it will be available through several book media outlets, such as, Amazon, and more. We rejected the first cover design and it is now in the re-design stage. As soon as I get the re-design back I will post it and you will be among the very first to see the new cover.

Patience is a virtue but at this point it is very difficult to maintain. The anticipation level is high and we are in hopes of having a published copy in hand before too long.

Highpoint is the top of the mountain where the climber places his flag. The Highpoint is the majestic top where breath-taking scenery and the joy of accomplishment sweeps over your senses like an ocean way. The Highpoint is where we all dream of being but Highpoints are for those who dare to climb.   This book, Highpoints, is a book for climbers. Those who have chosen to climb above, reach higher and see what others may have only thought about. Highpoints unravels the logistics of the climb and plants seeds of hope in the heart of every climber, “You can do this!”

Many have been satisfied with God on my level but God is calling you to His level,a greater height in His presence.  But this book is not about a dreamy state of mind that only the elite reach, Highpoints is about those who dare to make the climb, to begin to reach, to begin to grab, to begin to feel the exhilaration of greater heights.

Free IPad Apps for Writers

If you are a writer, pastor, business person or blogger this post will help you find the best apps to use on your new Ipad. Using your Ipad everyday is the easy part but finding the apps that are free and the most productive is a trial and error process. You usually download the app, try it out, see if it fits your needs, and if not, delete it. But I have found the best way to download the right app is to follow those who have already tried the apps out and given me the update on their trial basis. This post will help you sort through millions of apps and find the right ones just for you. Even though we all differ a bit (lol) writers have a tendency to use the same basic set of tools.

Each of the apps will be chosen from Itunes and each will be exclusively for the Ipad.

WordPress The first app I would load on my Ipad as a blogger is the WordPress app. You can easily edit or create a new blog wherever you may be with your Ipad. However, I feel it has some limitations that need to be addressed but regardless it is a powerful tool that allows for posting, editing, and checking stats.

Dropbox If you are going to be writing and picking up your manuscript on multiple computers then Dropbox is a great storage tank for your files.  Save your files into Dropbox and pick them up where you left off on another computer.

Wikipanion We all need a research tool and Wikipanion is a great online encyclopedia to have at your fingertips; you can access Wikipedia whenever you are on your Ipad.

Ghostwriter This is my favorite note taker with various tools, such as, appointment/action items sheet, different writing instruments and choices of backgrounds. You can write notes, draw pictures or paste a photograph and then save to Dropbox or Evernote

Evernote This is hands down one of the most useful filing systems for your Ipad notes, sermons, files or receipts. You can label each file, store your papers, and retrieve on any electronic device that has Evernote installed on it. You can’t organize without this one.

Wunderlist This app enables the user to creat a to-do list on a colorful background, ave according to due date but lacks an export button.

SmartOffice2 For those who still use the Microsoft Suite including Word, then you can transform your Word documents and actually edit them inside SmartOffice 2. It will bring documents up from Google Docs and Dropbox, a great plus. (Since I received my copy of Smart Office 2 it is no longer free on Itunes and the price is $9.99)

Logos Bible This app allows you to read commentary side by side the biblical text. You can highlight a text, do a word search and download additional study guides, many of them are free.

A Moral Fence

“To death do us part” needs a security fence. Men and woman who fail in their marriage usually disregard the moral fence chosen to be placed around the marriage. For marriage to be good there must be a moral fence of protection keeping the husband and wife within the blessed boundary of the marriage covenant. This is not as much confinement as it is protection. Our joy is protected. Our security is protected. Our health is protected. Our finances are protected. Our future is protected.

Do you know what a moral failure looks like? While eating dinner with a “fallen brother” he confessed, “I can’t sing, I can’t pray, I have a hard time looking my wife in the eyes, and you always wonder what it would have been if it had never happened.” Even if you get your marriage back it takes long time to build trust and the memory doesn’t fade away quickly.

Moral fences, after my wife and I have celebrated 35 years of marriage, include:

Social media checkups My wife checks my Facebook, Blog, texts on my phone, and emails. Some may think this is overkill or too much control but I see it as protection; a fence to keep me from wandering off base.

Communication We sit down frequently and talk about what is on our mind, whether with a cup of coffee in the morning or an evening dinner but we communicate about our day and its activities.

The Holy Spirit Of all the accountability given to man there is none like the power of the Holy Spirit to keep you on a check and balances system. This inward prodding of the Holy Spirit is invaluable for those who choose to keep morally correct.

Accountability Finding a men’s group or a pastor to talk to has been a vital part of the “moral fence.” Having men who understand the frustrations and turn ons can help move you past the temptation and on to victory.

Common Sense Keeping your distance and not being left alone with the opposite sex is just common sense. Not complimenting someone’s physical appearance and inappropriate touching is a fast train out-of-town.

Staying close Date your wife and tell her you love her every day. Kiss her when she leaves the house. Compliment her in public and let others know of your affection for her.

Pray Together What a great way to shore up the line of protection by praying one for the other. Love and marriage is worth protecting and prayer includes the creator of marriage into the picture. Through prayer Jesus will build a fence around your marriage.

Comment: I am sure there are other ways to protect your marriage – what do you suggest?

Conquering Frustrations

I just took a break from writing the blog for about a week for two good reasons; I wanted to regroup and refocus on the how and why plus, the greater reason, my wife and I took off and celebrated our 35 wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful and much-needed time of relaxation. Thanks for waiting around for the next blog.

Two weeks ago a police officer mentioned to me that with the heat wave there was also a wave of domestic dispute cases. This increase of arguments, fights and disagreements led to a 911 call and the police officer had the gruelling task of separating (oftentimes) family members apart. A young mother confessed yesterday of her frustrations in recent weeks and an employee of a large firm told about the intense calls her office was receiving concerning their dwindling income.

Frustrations come from three defined levels:

A misunderstanding of the facts surrounding the situation. Not having enough information and merely gathering of superstitious feelings and assumptions can lead to inner frustrations that burst into exterior actions. Gather all the facts by finding a person concerned with your issue. Don’t be caught up in the “feel good” huddle of “back patters” who simply feel sympathetic. An emotional uplift and support from your friends is necessary but you need someone who is able to understand your frustrations and assist you in gathering the facts. Find a pastor, counselor or financial consultant.

Cluttered surroundings. Being disorganized and disheveled can lead to a lack of security pushing you into frustrations. Have a garage sale, give some stuff away to Goodwill, or pack your clutter in boxes and put it in a shed or the garage but move it from your sight. You will be surprised the reduction of clutter will bring to the reduction of stress.

Uncontrollable circumstances. This level seems to be the most stressful and frustrating of all. Having situations come up in your life you can do nothing about, they whirl around you in the form of car trouble, family problems, financial woes, health concerns and more. We all face them. This frustration spirals out of control because of the pressure around us. Find a quiet place, note all the things you are thankful for, let the tears flow and cry out of God for His intervention. One mother went to the basement in her home and cried out to God for her daughter only to watch amazed as her daughter came home the next day asking forgiveness as she hugged her mother. Miracles still happen and God still answers prayer.

Intrinsic lifestyle. Withdrawn is painful. Living alone in the sea of people can be frustrating. Reach out to a church, a support group or an old friend and find the joy of living, laughing and loving. A diet from people can be damaging to your health. Reach out and be involved. Frustrations fade in a group of friends. “Joy cometh in the morning.”
