Spending some quality time with some long time friends last week was the highlight of the year. Sitting at Starbucks, conversing of times past, our children and grandchildren, plus, new dreams and aspirations. Our time together at the restaurants, in their home and at the coffee shop was time well spent and left an overwhelming feeling of thankfulness for such friends. Leaving encouraged by their friendship, hospitality and genuine concern over the years caused me to look at Proverbs 25:11 again with a new-found appreciation.
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
Life is too short for grudges, too hard to add complaining and argumentation, too difficult to drag others down with negative words. Barnabas was an encourager to Apostle Paul, in fact, the name Barnabas, means encourager. After shipwreck, stonings and jail sentences, encouragement from a friend can go a long way.
Let’s encourage someone today with a sincere compliment, a well written card or a long, over due, phone call.
